Swab said she speaks as the parent of a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and cited concerns about the impact of the flag‑lowering decision on marginalized groups, asking the city to "reconsider the message that Elyria is sending." Council did not take action on the matter during the meeting; it was presented as a petition from the lobby during the public‑comment period.
