Windsor School parents urge immediate safety fixes at Kensington and Windsor after recent crash

Parents and neighbors told the Village Board on Sept. 15 that the Kensington and Windsor intersection near Windsor School presents an ongoing safety hazard for students and crossing guards and urged the village to act before another serious crash occurs.

Amy Elston, a Windsor School parent, described repeated incidents of speeding, drivers failing to stop and aggressive behavior toward the crossing guard, and she said the neighborhood experienced a serious crash during school pickup in the past year. Elston said a historical crash 35 years ago injured two children at the same location and that residents have collected a petition with more than 300 signatures asking for safety improvements.

Elston told the board monitors were placed while Prospect High School was out of session and therefore did not include those drivers in the study. She requested the board prioritize the intersection’s improvements rather than deferring action; staff acknowledged the matter and said it is under active review.
