The Sterling Heights City Council approved the transfer of an escrowed 2025 Class C liquor license, dance permit and new entertainment permit to Al Malik LLC, which plans to operate a restaurant and bar called Moments at 37864 Van Dyke.
Why it matters: Transfer of a city‑issued liquor license allows a new restaurant to sell alcoholic beverages and host entertainment; council typically reviews operations, experience and state approval status before granting local consent.
Applicant Al Malik addressed council and described a Mediterranean‑American menu featuring items such as hummus, shawarma, kebab, pizza and other dishes adapted from regional recipes. He said the venue will offer light, soft live music and invited council to a planned grand opening. Applicant said he has prior restaurant experience in his home country and has worked in hospitality since moving to the U.S.
Councilmember Radke moved to approve the license transfer; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The applicant said he has already worked with state officials in Lansing during a multi‑step approval process and expected to open soon; council advised the applicant to remain available for follow‑up questions.
The transfer as approved includes Sunday sales, specific purpose permits, a catering permit, a dance permit and entertainment permissions. Council took no separate action on zoning or building permits, which the applicant must complete before opening.
