Lauren Buck, director of public health for the City of Revere, told the Board of Health that September brought a relatively low burden of communicable disease but noted a rise in COVID activity consistent with national trends: 86 confirmed and 18 probable COVID cases were reported for the period.
Buck outlined the department’s fall vaccination plan. For homebound Revere residents and their caregivers, the department will offer homebound vaccine visits running in mid‑October for influenza, COVID and pneumonia vaccines; residents can call the public health office at (781) 485‑8486 to schedule. The department also is offering weekly flu shots at the public health office in City Hall’s basement every Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. through mid‑to‑late fall.
A larger regional clinic is scheduled in partnership with Chelsea and Winthrop on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Chelsea Senior Center, 10 Riley Way. Buck said that clinic will offer influenza, COVID and pneumonia vaccines as well as RSV and shingles where age‑appropriate and eligible.
Buck also described upcoming fire prevention week outreach in coordination with the Revere Fire Department and Revere Public Schools. The public health department recorded multilingual public service announcements that will run on Revere TV addressing topics such as lithium‑battery safety, cooking safety, carbon monoxide and smoke detector checks. Staff will visit kindergarten and second‑grade classrooms in partnership with Revere Public Schools during a week in October to provide fire‑safety education, and a fire prevention open house will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Fire Station, 400 Broadway.
Board members thanked Buck for the update; no formal actions were taken on the reports.
