At the Board of Health's September meeting, Michael Wells, the city’s health agent and director of inspectional services, presented the department’s monthly inspection report covering interior housing, food inspections and exterior sanitation enforcement.
Wells reported that the interior housing division conducted 83 certificates of fitness and 26 certificate‑of‑fitness reinspections. He initially stated “interior complaints received were 3,” then corrected that report on the record: there were 2 interior complaints received and 3 additional complaints in process; interior complaint reinspections numbered 1. Wells also reported one pool/spa inspection and four pool/spa reinspections.
On food inspections, Wells reported 35 routine inspections, five reinspections, three complaint inspections, one pre‑opening inspection, 14 temporary food inspections and one establishment closure.
Exterior sanitation enforcement was the largest category reported: Wells said inspectional services issued 388 violations related to trash accumulation or bulky items, 27 violations for overflowing dumpsters, 98 violations for unclean or overgrown land, 17 violations for junk or automobile graveyard conditions and 1 unsafe‑structure violation. He also reported three violations for commercial vehicles in residential neighborhoods and two for improper signage on property.
Wells closed the report by describing the department’s ongoing efforts to secure compliance through inspections, orders and fines. The board did not take formal action on the report at the meeting; members thanked Wells for the update.
