Columbia County proclaims Sept. 14–20, 2025 as Sheriff’s Week

The Columbia County Board of Supervisors on Sept. 10 read a proclamation declaring Sept. 14–20, 2025 as Sheriff’s Week in Columbia County and recognizing the historical and contemporary roles of the sheriff’s office.
The proclamation described the sheriff’s office as an institution dating to New York State’s first constitution in 1777 and noted its evolution into a modern law-enforcement and public-service agency that provides court security, dispatch and emergency services, correctional personnel and civil-process functions. The text recognized the office’s continued accountability to the public.
A sheriff’s office representative accepted the proclamation and thanked the board. In remarks entered in the record, the speaker referenced the county’s early law-enforcement history, noted past sheriffs and said, "It's an honor to serve Columbia County," and that the office’s staff "work hard every day protecting and serving everyone here at Columbia County." Those remarks were delivered during the proclamation presentation.
The proclamation is ceremonial; no ordinance, budget action or operational direction was made during the reading.
