The Delaware County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 15 adopted Resolution 25-736 recognizing Donna Meyer for her years of service as executive director of the Delaware County Historical Society and for her work on historic preservation projects in the county.
Why it matters: County and nonprofit leaders said Meyer’s grant and fundraising work led to capital projects that preserved historical structures and expanded public programming, projects county officials said have educational and tourism value.
A judge who spoke as a Historical Society board member praised Meyer’s work securing grants and overseeing projects, saying Meyer successfully lobbied the Ohio General Assembly for capital funds and oversaw a multimillion‑dollar project to rehabilitate a nineteenth‑century barn at the Meeker Homestead. The proclamation read into the record cited the Ohio General Assembly, the Ohio History Connection and the Ohio Local History Alliance for their roles in recognizing the society’s programming.
Meyer spoke briefly at the podium and thanked volunteers and the commissioners for support. “We just finished the roof project at the jail, thanks to you guys,” she said, and described the growth of the Society’s facilities and school programming during her tenure.
Board members including Nancy Reager and Commissioner Jeff Benton offered remarks before Benton read the proclamation and the board voted to adopt the resolution. The resolution recognizes Meyer’s service, wishes her well in retirement and noted she will remain active in the community; the board approved the resolution by unanimous voice vote.
Ending: Commissioners presented the proclamation and invited Historical Society board members and volunteers to participate in a photo after the meeting. Meyer said she intends to remain engaged locally after retirement; any future elected service she mentioned would be subject to subsequent campaign and election processes.
