The Columbia County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a resolution on Sept. 15 to increase the county treasurer’s change fund by $200, raising the total from $300 to $500 so each of two employee cash drawers will hold $250 during high-volume tax payment hours.

County Treasurer Carla (last name not stated) told the board staff often run short of small-change during peak tax-payment periods and asked to move $200 from the bank custody to the change drawers to reduce overnight cash swapping between drawers.

The resolution was presented in standard form (Resolution 2025-20). Treasurer Carla explained the extra cash will be carried in a locking drawer and deposited nightly; funds remain public money and daily deposits continue. "So each drawer will balance to $250 each night," she said.

Commissioner (name not stated) moved the resolution; the board voted in favor without further discussion.

The resolution directs the treasurer to implement the increased drawer amounts effective Sept. 17, 2025 and documents operational details for county records. Treasurer staff said they would provide keys for the locking cabinet that secures the funds and continue nightly deposits to the bank.

The board recorded no opposition and declared the motion carried.
