Evergreen board approves revised 2025–26 school calendar, restores missed days
Summary
The Evergreen Board of Directors approved a revised 2025–26 school calendar on Sept. 15 that restores days missed at the start of the year, moves certain bargained teacher days to the end of the calendar to preserve graduation dates, and sets a K–12 early release on the day before Thanksgiving; details will be shared by Executive Director of I&D.
At a special meeting on Sept. 15, the Evergreen Board of Directors approved a revised 2025–26 school calendar to restore days lost because of the delayed start to the school year. Director BocaNaykera moved to approve the revised calendar; Director Wilson seconded the motion and the chair called the motion carried by voice vote.
Board members and staff said the district added back the days lost at the start of the year rather than extending the school year beyond scheduled end dates. A board speaker thanked the Evergreen teachers association for agreeing to move bargained days to the end of the calendar, which the district said allowed the school system to preserve graduation dates. "There were some days that were bargained days for the teachers association within the calendar, and I just wanted to extend a thank you to them," a district speaker said. "They have come together and agreed to move those days to the end of the calendar and that allowed for us to not have to move the graduation dates."
The executive director of instruction and leadership, Bobby Hite, was identified in the meeting as the staff member responsible for finalizing changes to trimesters, semesters, grading days and early-release schedules; the director said Hite would distribute details later the same afternoon if the regular district calendar was approved.
The revised calendar also designates the day before Thanksgiving as a K–12 early-release day; other early-release and grading-day changes were described as forthcoming in communications from the executive director. Board members thanked district and union partners for rapidly coordinating the revision and noted the changes reduced family anxiety about graduation and scheduling.
Following the calendar vote the board recessed for a short break and planned a workshop to discuss the WASDE general assembly.
