The City of Newark finance committee voted 5-0 to authorize the mayor to prepare and submit the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) one-year use-of-funds action plan and an application for FY2026 Community Development Block Grant funds required by HUD regulations referenced in the meeting.
Staff member (presenter) said, “This is the annual application. We always come in the fall to present legislation. At this point in time, we do not know what the 2026 allocation will be from HUD. I will tell you that this year, our allocation is $745,133, and the money just came in today.”
The authorization directs the mayor to prepare and submit the required HUD documents and the application for FY2026 CDBG funds. Committee action was taken by a motion and second; the committee voted 5-0 to forward the resolution to the full council for final action.
City staff noted the FY2026 allocation amount from HUD is not yet known; the committee recorded the city’s 2025 allocation of $745,133 as information only. No additional funding commitments or project allocations were approved at the committee level during this vote.
The item was presented during the finance committee portion of the evening’s meetings and will proceed to the full council for consideration.
