Lorain City Council unanimously passed a resolution recognizing Skate World’s 50th anniversary and directing that a certified copy of the proclamation be presented to the rink. Councilwoman Mary Springowski introduced the resolution and described the venue’s history, telling the council that Skate World opened in October 1975 in a converted roadside motel and has hosted skating sessions, birthday parties, fundraisers and other community events for five decades.
Springowski said the rink adapted over the years — from live organ performances and disco-era DJ nights to modern music skates — and noted renovations completed in 2015 and 2018. The resolution noted a Golden Jubilee reunion and retro night planned for Sept. 28, 2025, and the council recorded that the formal actions were taken in an open meeting in compliance with Section 121.22 of the Ohio Revised Code.
Representatives from Skate World thanked the council for the recognition. The resolution passed without objection.
