Belleville Police Department promotes two officers to sergeant

The City Council approved promotions for Tyler Schwartz and Ron Funk to the rank of sergeant, effective Sept. 16, 2025; both will serve as patrol sergeants on the night shift.
The Belleville City Council on Sept. 15 approved promotions for two Belleville Police Department officers to sergeant, effective 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 16, 2025.
Tyler Schwartz, who has served about eight years with the department and was assigned to the auto-theft task force and as a field-training officer, was approved to be promoted and assigned as a patrol sergeant on the night shift. Ron Funk, a 20-year department veteran and former auto-theft investigator and special response-team member, was also promoted and will serve as a night-shift patrol sergeant.
Lieutenant Ferrell introduced the officers at the meeting, calling them “well deserving” and noting their prior assignments and training roles. The promotions were approved by roll call during the council’s Board of Fire and Police Commission report.
The council recorded the effective date as Sept. 16, 2025.
