Belleville council approves public-works contracts, sells old sweeper and okays loan for sanitation truck

The Belleville City Council on Sept. 15 approved several public-works and finance items, including a lowest-bid award for asphalt patching, authorization to sell an old street sweeper and bank financing for a new sanitation truck.

The council approved a $778,885.50 contract to Chris Brothers Asphalt Inc. for the 2025–26 motor fuel tax/TIF asphalt patch program after a motion from the streets and grades committee. The council also approved an ordinance authorizing sale and conversion of a 2017 Timco 550X sweeper (VIN ending in 46691) from the public-works fleet.

Separately, the council approved bank financing from UCBank at an interest rate of 3.693% to finance one new automated side-loader sanitation truck. A resolution authorizing the loan for the sanitation truck was read and passed at the meeting.

Council members said the purchases and sale are part of routine fleet and capital management. The motions passed by roll call and were recorded in the meeting minutes. Half of a $28,258.03 electrical work invoice tied to pedestrian-safety enhancements will be reimbursed by St. Clair County Transit in a separate action related to East Creek sewer separation; that item also received council approval.

The ordinance to sell the 2017 sweeper and the loan authorization permit the city to update equipment used for sanitation and street maintenance, and the city will proceed with procuring the new automated side-loader under the approved financing terms.
