Mass. House approves extensions for committee reporting deadlines across multiple committees

The Massachusetts House adopted a series of orders extending the time for several standing committees to report on current House documents, approving new deadlines that range from November 2025 to March 2026 after motions to suspend the rules. The measures extend reporting deadlines for the Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses to Nov. 23, 2025 (House No. 4519); the Committee on Education to Dec. 17, 2025 (House No. 4520); the Committee on Environment and Natural Resources to Dec. 31, 2025 (House No. 4516); the Committee on Health Care Financing to March 18, 2026 (House No. 4517); and the Committee on Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy to Dec. 3, 2025 (House No. 4518). Each order was presented as a committee report and then advanced after a member moved suspension of the rules to permit immediate adoption.

Committee reports identifying the recommended orders were read aloud on the floor and followed by motions to suspend the rules, commonly moved by Representative Donato of Medford. After each suspension motion the chair called the question and members voted by voice; the chair announced the ayes as carrying and the respective orders as adopted. The orders themselves were filed by various House members: Representatives Vargas of Haverhill and Hong of Lowell (community development and small businesses extension); Representatives Gordon of Bedford and Heirs of Quincy (education extension); Representatives Barber of Somerville and Cataldo of Concord (environment extension); Representatives Lawn of Watertown and Kilcoyne of Clinton (health care financing extension); and Representatives Cusack of Braintree and Kishmarek of Fitchburg (telecommunications extension).

The actions change internal House deadlines for committee reporting; the orders state new calendar dates by which the named committees are authorized to report on their assigned current documents.
