Committee favors Dale Buxton for Board of Water Resources representing Bear River district

The Senate Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment Confirmation Committee voted to recommend Dale Buxton of Cornish to the full Senate for appointment to the Board of Water Resources to represent the Bear River district (Box Elder, Cache and Rich counties).
Buxton, who said he graduated from Utah State University in agricultural economics and retired from a regional bank before returning to farming, described 450 acres of crop ground worked with his son and his role as corporate secretary for the West Cache Irrigation District, which draws water from the Bear River storage system. “We draw water off of the Bear River,” he said, describing first-hand experience with irrigation conveyance and distribution.
Candace Hosniger, director of the Utah Division of Water Resources and executive secretary to the Board of Water Resources, spoke in support of Buxton, citing the board’s long history of providing financial assistance for irrigation and municipal water projects. After public comment and committee discussion about financing infrastructure and the state’s need for diverse financial expertise, Senator Ravey moved a favorable recommendation; the committee approved the motion unanimously.
The committee’s recommendation advances Buxton’s nomination to the full Senate for confirmation; no board funding or program decisions were made at the hearing.
