Commissioners authorize solicitation to relocate historic Continental Hotel building downtown

Victoria County Commissioners Court on Sept. 15 approved an order to advertise a solicitation for proposals to relocate the historic Continental Hotel building near the courthouse. The action will solicit vendors to move the building from its current site at the corner of Constitution and Bridge (near the jail) to a county-owned site a short distance away; commissioners and preservation advocates said the relocation would enable restoration and reuse.
John Cassellus, chair of the Victoria County Historical Commission, told the court the hotel — built in 1871 — is one of the oldest structures in town and that moving it would allow restoration and conversion into a community asset. Court members discussed possible relocation sites and the exact placement; staff said the solicitation will provide details and that the move location is near West Santa Rosa and Bridge/Constitution (half a block around from the courthouse area).
The court moved and seconded the motion to advertise the solicitation; members voted “Aye” and the motion carried. Court members said they expect the solicitation to attract bidders to evaluate and provide relocation plans and costs.
