Court receives MOU renewing county support for Victoria County Master Gardener Association gardens

Victoria County Commissioners Court received a fully executed memorandum of understanding on Sept. 15 between Victoria County and the Victoria County Master Gardener Association covering the property at 283 Bachelor Drive. The court’s action was to receive the MOU for the record; no changes to the agreement were made during the meeting.
Speakers from the Master Gardener Association described educational programming the group provides, including an annual smart gardening symposium that drew roughly 142 attendees, a monthly “gardener’s dirt” column written by volunteer members, a children’s camp that hosted about 52 kids and school tours that brought 582 students through the gardens in 2024. A county official noted the volunteer hours for 2024 were valued at $33.50 per hour, equating to an estimated $452,081.51 in volunteer contribution for the year.
Court members praised the Master Gardeners’ outreach and youth programs. The MOU covers land use, buildings, insurance arrangements and cost responsibilities for the property and is effective retroactive to Aug. 1 and runs through Dec. 31, 2026. The court answered “Aye” on a motion to receive the document and the motion carried.
