The District 118 Board of Education voted to continue a contract addendum for food-service provision to a local Head Start program for the 2025–26 school year, Food Services Director Zada Peugeot told the board. The Head Start center is an off-site program; the district’s Kenneth/KDBA staff will prepare and deliver meals for the program, and Head Start pays the district for breakfast, lunch and a snack.
Peugeot said this would be the third contract with Head Start in recent years; changes in Head Start management earlier in the year resulted in a lapse over the summer, but the district and the new management company have resumed discussions. She said the Head Start center had initially expected larger enrollment, which affected earlier pricing, and that the district set delivery and pricing terms with a reduced fee when minimum student counts were not met.
Board members asked about federal guidelines for Head Start meals; Peugeot said the program follows federal nutrition guidelines and that Head Start standards are stricter than the district’s typical school meal rules. She confirmed the district has staff capacity to prepare and transport the meals and that the Head Start center pays the district for the service.
The board approved the addendum by roll call vote, 7–0.
