On Sept. 10 the Mount Vernon City Council voted to authorize the mayor to accept a CREST grant awarded by the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) in the amount of $2,704,000 for renovations at the Dole Center.
The ordinance authorizing acceptance of the CREST funds was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous roll call vote. Council members voting aye included Councilman Boxhill, Councilwoman Gleeson, Councilman Poteet, Councilman Thompson and Council President Brown.
Why it matters: The $2.704 million award is designated for renovations at a city facility and represents a significant capital improvement funded through a state authority program. The measure passed as part of the council's legislative agenda on Sept. 10.
Related items: At the same meeting council members also discussed, and in some cases approved, other departmental ordinances, personnel leaves and training attendances; a separate ordinance authorizing a vehicle‑fleet agreement was held on the floor for further information.
Implementation: The ordinance delegates acceptance of the grant to the mayor; the Department of Public Works and mayoral office will be responsible for carrying out renovations and any procurement steps tied to the DASNY grant terms.
