The Middle Country Central School District on Thursday publicly recognized Kathy Walsh after she resigned from the Board of Education in 2025, thanking her for years of service and presenting a commemorative plaque.
An unnamed board presenter reviewed Walsh’s years of service, saying she was first elected in 2002, reelected in 2005, resigned in 2006 to pursue a council position, was appointed to fill a vacancy in February 2017 and subsequently reelected in 2018, 2020 and 2023 before resigning in 2025. The presenter cited Walsh’s role in starting the Boyle Road Park Complex and the district’s dog park.
Kathy Walsh, identified in the meeting as a board trustee, told the board she remains available to help the district despite stepping down to attend to family needs. She said she has a third‑generation family connection to district schools and thanked colleagues: “I am deeply touched. … I will always be here if ever there's a need in any way I could help.”
Board members and student leaders offered tributes. Several members individually thanked Walsh for her years of service; student representative Dylan Blake, a senior at Newfield High School, introduced himself earlier in the meeting and board members welcomed him.
The recognition was ceremonial. The transcript does not record a formal vote related to Walsh’s resignation or a process for filling her seat.
