Board to propose amendment expanding student representative eligibility to include Running Start and skill-center pathways

The board discussed Policy 12 50, which governs student representatives on the board, and directed staff to bring an amendment at the next business meeting to broaden eligibility and resolve credit and funding concerns for Running Start and skill-center students.
A board member noted the current policy requires a student representative to take at least one class at the high school to receive credit and to participate in Associated Student Body (ASB) activities. The board discussed a recent junior (identified in the meeting as Ruby) who was full-time Running Start and therefore did not meet the one-class requirement.
Board members proposed adding a Running Start and/or skill-center representative slot so students who are off-campus but engaged in district pathways can have representation. They also discussed language to allow the board to waive the one-class credit requirement for a 100% Running Start representative so the student’s eligibility would not be affected by funding or credit conflicts.
The amendment will be drafted and brought to the next business meeting for formal consideration; no formal policy change occurred at the work-study meeting.
