The Delaware County Board of Commissioners appointed Bruce Lutke as chairperson of the Delaware County Transit Board at its Sept. 8 meeting.
The appointment, recorded as Resolution 25-722, followed a staff recommendation and brief remarks from commissioners in support of Lutke taking the chair.
Jane Haas, director of communications, introduced the resolution and said the commissioners have the authority to select and appoint the chair. “We have before you a resolution, to appoint Bruce Lukey as the chairperson for the transit board,” Haas said. The clerk read the name as Bruce Lutke in the resolution language.
A commissioner who spoke in support said he did not know Lutke well but had heard only positive comments and expressed confidence that Lutke would continue to advance Delaware Transit with staff support. Another commissioner said Lutke “has been a very good board member” and that she supported the appointment. The board then voted; both Commissioners Merrill and Lewis recorded aye votes and the motion passed.
Why this matters: the transit board’s chairperson helps set meeting agendas and steer oversight of county transit services; the appointment places Lutke in that leadership role.
Background: the commissioners noted that they have hiring/appointment authority for the transit board chair. The resolution passed unanimously among the members present; Commissioner Benton was absent.
