Commissioners approve $75,000 local commitment for senior services this fiscal year

Grant County commissioners approved a $75,000 local commitment on Sept. 11 to support senior services for the fiscal year after reviewing a budget prepared by the regional nonprofit that analyzed staffing and operating needs. County Manager Webb explained the figure follows a deep-dive analysis of the former provider’s budgets and a statewide non-metro assessment; the $75,000 local commitment is the amount recommended to adequately staff and operate the county’s senior centers for the coming fiscal year. Webb said the county and the Town of Silver City each were asked to provide the commitment. A motion to approve the request carried; commissioners said they had reviewed the budget materials. Commissioners also confirmed existing in-place assets in facility buildings — such as kitchen appliances — remain county property following prior provider transitions. The county manager and senior-services staff will proceed with the funding commitment and ensure center operations continue under the new arrangements.
