Carroll County Parks wins one-day permit to host Ales and Tails dog-friendly beer event

The Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks received approval Tuesday for a one-day liquor permit to host “Ales and Tails,” a Friday-evening dog-friendly beer event at South Carroll Dog Park.

Parks staffer Maya Edwards told the board the department plans to invite a single brewery vendor to serve beer inside the dog-park fence and to host food trucks outside the fenced area. “They’re gonna have to consume it in the fence,” Edwards said, explaining that alcohol served by the vendor would not be allowed to leave the fenced area. The department estimates about 200 attendees for the inaugural event and said proceeds will go to the park legacy fund.

Edwards said the vendor under consideration, Pipe the Side Brewery, agreed to create a custom beer and donate 10% of profits to the parks fund. The board also confirmed event staffing and alcohol-awareness coverage: multiple staff with certification will be on-site and at least one certified person will be present during service. Edwards said portable toilets will be provided and that animal-adoption tables for the Humane Society and a local rescue will be located in a separate small-dog enclosure.

Board members had no objections and granted the one-day license for the proposed South Carroll Dog Park event. Commissioners reminded the department to ensure alcohol is contained inside the fenced area and to maintain certified servers on-site.
