Los Angeles Department of Transportation staff told the Transportation Committee on Sept. 10 that the department participated in Metro’s regional Games mobility summit and is coordinating across agencies to create a transit-first transportation plan for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
LADOT staff reported participation in panels at the summit and said the event helped reinforce regional coordination. “It was a really great opportunity to be able to showcase that partnership, the collaboration, and really to be able to connect the dots,” the department’s speaker said.
Committee members raised venue-specific concerns for areas that will host road races and other events. Council members representing Venice asked about road and sidewalk conditions ahead of triathlon, marathon and street-cycling events, and LADOT said it will coordinate with the Bureau of Street Services to assess resurfacing and accessibility needs once race routes are finalized. LADOT also said it will advance active-transportation projects and mobility-hub concepts that encourage arrival by transit, walking and biking.
Next steps cited in the verbal update include continued collaboration with Metro, LA28 and other agencies as courses are finalized and field assessments for pavement and sidewalk conditions are completed.
