A fundraising subcommittee proposed a health and wellness fair to the Town of Southborough Tricentennial Committee on Sept. 10 and said they would pursue Reliant Medical Group as a potential presenting sponsor if the committee liked the idea.
The fundraising lead described the sponsor’s requirements and said Reliant’s sponsorship guidelines require the event be health‑related, aligned with Reliant’s mission and within Reliant’s service area. “When she read that the organization the event must be health care related, aligned with Reliance mission and values, and within Reliance service area,” the fundraiser said, describing how sponsorship packages must be tailored to each prospective donor.
The proposed program would include free screenings (blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose), vision and hearing checks, educational workshops on nutrition and fitness, local provider booths and family wellness activities. The fundraiser suggested hosting the fair at Reliant’s facility, with the sponsor providing clinical staff and medical supplies as part of a sponsorship package.
Committee concerns: members questioned who would provide clinical staff, how liability and town insurance would be handled and whether the town would want to assume responsibility for medical screenings. A committee member said the town may be reluctant to be legally responsible for clinical services and suggested the event might be best run as a Reliant‑led event with committee support.
Outcome: the committee expressed general interest but asked the fundraising team to return with more specifics — including a proposed sponsorship amount, a budget showing how sponsorship money would be used, and clarity on staffing, insurance and operational responsibility — before the committee would take a formal vote to endorse the event.
