Committee to rerun county property list after errors; moves to executive session to discuss specific parcel

Committee members asked for an update to a previously circulated list of county-owned parcels that the board had considered for potential sale. Commissioner Bill Roth said the prior list contained errors, including parcels that county staff later identified as transferred to other entities such as the Forest Reserve or as associated with KDOT actions. "There was properties listed that was owned by KDOT that had been turned over the the Forest Reserve. So we know the county no longer has them. I had noticed a few of those errors," Roth said. Roger Fonstock responded that the source information for the sheet came from county property and assessment systems and "the information on that sheet was accurate at the time as well." Staff agreed to rerun the report and cross-reference it to identify parcels removed or reclassified. Commissioners also discussed marking parcels that cannot be sold (for example, strips held for construction access) and identifying low-value parcels that might be "low-hanging fruit" for sale. The committee agreed to follow up with the county assessor's and legal staff, and to check in with KDOT on specific entries. The committee made a motion and approved going into executive session to discuss a particular parcel and to allow a private presentation by an outside organization seeking to present an interest in purchasing county property. No final sale or purchase decisions were made in open session; the committee directed staff to rerun and annotate the parcel list and to prepare for a closed-session discussion on the identified property.
