The visitor commission approved a grant request to continue funding a location‑analytics subscription (referred to as Posture AI / Placer AI in the presentation) used by the county Convention and Visitors Bureau to generate visitor trends, origin data and demographics for festivals, attractions and events.
The CVB presenter described how the tool has provided visitor counts and origin estimates, and gave an example showing about 4,000 attendees for a short event. The presenter said the data product has an estimated margin of error of 3–5 percent, excludes schools and churches for privacy reasons, and requires staff time to generate customized reports (the CVB typically needs about three days to a week to prepare ad hoc reports for partners). The presenter said the subscription is being used by multiple local partners (chambers, KEDCO and other economic development partners) and asked the commission to fund another year of service.
Board members asked about promoting the availability of the data to municipalities and community partners and discussed the possibility of cost‑sharing with other partners if the CVB could provide more regular, packaged reports. During the meeting the presenter confirmed the subscription cost is expected to be $23,000 per year if renewed; the commission approved the grant as presented.
Commissioners noted the analytics have aided grant writing, marketing and strategic planning for attractions and venues and encouraged the CVB to consider a staffing or intern solution to make better use of the data across partners.
