The City of Dickinson Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 10 recommended approval of a zoning map amendment to rezone Lot 3, Block 2 of the Stockard's First Edition subdivision from low-density residential (R-1) to general commercial (GC). The property sits in the city’s extraterritorial zone and totals about 3.4 acres. Natalie Burczyk, city planner, said the rezoning request is intended to “conform the zoning pattern with the zoning that's located to the west of this property, in order to subdivide that property into just one lot.” Burczyk told commissioners staff had received no public comments and recommended approval contingent on final approval of the related Stockard Third Edition preliminary major subdivision (PLP-003-2025). The commission opened a public hearing, heard no comments and approved a motion to recommend the rezoning. The motion text recorded in the meeting says the Stockard rezoning "is consistent with the City of Dickinson comprehensive plan, has been compliant with the City of Dickinson zoning ordinance, and has been in the interest of public health, safety, and welfare." The commission approved the recommendation by voice vote; the transcript records the motion carried. The rezoning recommendation will move forward to the City Commission and is contingent on the final subdivision approval noted by staff, meaning the rezoning is not effective until the associated plat is finalized.
