Oklahoma County chairman says he will step aside temporarily as commission strikes two agenda items

Oklahoma County Chairman Miles Davidson said he will step aside temporarily and the commission voted to strike two agenda items after multiple public commenters urged his resignation during a commission meeting that was posted Sept. 9, 2025. The commission voted, by voice, to strike agenda items 17 and 18; the chairman said he will bring the items back for a vote tomorrow and seek someone else to serve as chair in the interim.

The meeting drew repeated public calls for Davidson to resign amid allegations discussed by several residents and a mayor. Those speakers tied broader concerns about county purchases and conduct to calls that the commission remove Davidson from the chairmanship or that he resign outright.

Public commenters cited alleged improper transactions, project cost overruns and recent allegations against Davidson. Mark Volk told the commissioners, “You need to resign and resign now,” and Scott Tatum said the county had paid “several million dollars” for contaminated property at 1901 East Grand. Mayor Floyd Neeson and several other speakers urged the commission to “cleanse” the body and remove what they described as a stain on the office. Gina Standridge criticized what she called a predecided agenda item and said decisions should be made by the full board.

During discussion of agenda items 17 and 18, the chairman said, “They are incorrect, and they will be brought back tomorrow where, I, as chairman, will be putting it up for a vote for somebody else to take over while I step down.” A motion to strike items 17 and 18 was made, seconded and approved by voice vote; commissioners recorded “Aye.”

Commissioner comments after the vote emphasized both the seriousness of the public allegations and the principle of due process. One commissioner said the allegations are “very serious” and urged following the legal process; another thanked colleagues for placing leadership options on the next-day agenda. The commission recessed into executive session later in the meeting and returned to continue business.

The action to remove items 17 and 18 from the agenda does not constitute removal or resignation of an elected commissioner; the chairman’s statement described his intention to seek a temporary change in who serves as chair at the next meeting. The commission did not take a formal vote to remove or replace the chairman at this session.
