Board Approves Gardner Science sign replacement and monument for 'The Seafood'

The Board of Architectural Review on Sept. 10 approved Regulated Sign Application 23-2025, allowing Gardner Science to replace two wall sign faces and install a new monument (pylon) sign at a restaurant identified in the application as The Seafood. The decision came after staff confirmed the proposed signs would bring the site into compliance with the city sign code.

The board's action matters because the new pylon sign replaces an out-of-compliance pole sign and the wall sign face replacements complete an update to the building's exterior signage. Tim Burns, the city zoning administrator, told the board that the zoning department had reviewed the application and had no objections.

Board members discussed the application briefly on the record and then voted to approve the design and installation. Tim Burns told the applicant that an approval email and the green light for installation would be sent, noting he would follow up by email to the address on the application. The board approved the application by voice vote.

The applicant, Mia Asta, confirmed on the record that the proposal included replacing the two existing cabinet sign faces and installing the monument sign and asked about next steps. Burns said: "I will email you. . . . I try to follow-up pretty quickly, with an approval and then your green light to go ahead, build, and install." Burns also indicated the zoning office had no objections: "There are no objections from the zoning department." The board closed the item after the vote.

The approval authorizes the applicant to proceed with permitting and installation consistent with the materials reviewed by the board; Burns will provide the applicant with the formal approval and permitting instructions.
