County veterans services credited with $25 million in VA claims awards and national recognition

Spokane County presenters said county veteran services doubled VA claims awards in 2024 to about $25 million and that the county received national recognition for its work. “We just received our third national achievement award from the National Association of Counties, and we received it for basically best practices in veteran services. And, having doubled our VA claims awards in just 1 year, in 2024, we did $25,000,000 in VA claims awards,” said Speaker 8, a county veterans services official.
Speaker 8 said the county is the first multi-jurisdictional state and county co-located veteran services center and that the office has the highest number of claims in the state compared to other county veteran service officers and state service offices. The speaker also said the county was recognized by the National Coalition for Homeless Veterans and NACo and has been asked to present its practices at national conferences.
County presenters described these items as program accomplishments; the remarks did not include new policy proposals or budget motions.
