Councilwoman Linda Julian presented a proclamation recognizing September as Hunger Action Month and invited Krista Toussaint of Feeding South Florida to receive the proclamation.
"Everyone deserves healthy food to live a full, healthy life," Julian said as she described the purpose of the month and urged residents to volunteer, donate, advocate and spread the word. She noted that food insecurity disproportionately affects Black communities and cited national statistics: "Nearly 50,000,000 people in The United States face hunger every single day."
Julian praised Feeding South Florida for its work and said the city of Miami Gardens joins the national movement to raise awareness and support local hunger-relief efforts. She called Krista Toussaint to receive the proclamation and asked the mayor and council to join for a photo.
The presentation was ceremonial; no council vote was recorded on the proclamation in the meeting transcript.
