Sherwood Elementary School was recognized by the Brevard County School Board on Sept. 9 for receiving the ECTAC ' Exceeding Expectations award, district officials said during the meeting. Tara Harris, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, introduced the recognition and praised Principal Sandra Marinas and school staff for sustained achievement and a culture supporting student success.
Harris described the criteria for the award, saying it recognizes schools that serve populations with poverty measures above the state average and that earned consecutive A or B school grades without ESSA designations for underperforming subgroups. The district said Sherwood was one of three Brevard Public Schools to receive the distinction and had consecutive high school grades for 2024 and 2025.
Board members, district leaders and the Sherwood choir participated in a brief onstage celebration; the board said it would take photographs and expressed appreciation for the school community. No formal action or budget appropriation accompanied the recognition.
Sherwood's award was presented as part of the meeting's opening recognitions and was followed by a short recess to allow photographs.
