Boobie Queue barbecue competition to host community trunk-or-treat on Nov. 1 at Oak Grove field house

Organizers of the Boobie Queue barbecue competition and Oak Grove parks staff announced plans for a public trunk-or-treat event on Saturday, Nov. 1, timed to coincide with the competition weekend at the field house. "They're gonna provide food there," said the event contact, identified in the meeting as Greg Hasty, who runs the Boobie Queue competition. Park staff described a schedule that opens food trucks at 6 p.m. and begins trunk-or-treat at 7 p.m., with competition teams at their trailers handing out candy so children can visit teams and see professional barbecue equipment. The parks department said food trucks scheduled to attend include local vendors listed by staff (pizza, tacos, El Sombrero, OG Bandits Barbecue and a specialty beverage truck called Cowpoke Corral). Staff said some teams may be willing to serve the public but face health-department constraints: competition teams typically use separate, dedicated grills for judging and would need extra equipment or coordination to serve public portions. "The difficulty they have is what they serve to the public is not the same meat that they serve for competition," the Park Director said. Staff noted the competition draws national and international teams and that the timing this year aligns with travel schedules for larger competitions. Saturday evening’s trunk-or-treat is intended to allow the public to see the competition teams’ equipment and to provide a family-friendly opportunity during the barbecue event. No public admission or ticketing details were finalized in the discussion; staff said arrangements are still being finalized with vendors and teams. The event is scheduled for Oct. 31–Nov. 2 with the public trunk-or-treat set for Nov. 1 starting at 6 p.m.
