Lee County maintenance team completes summer projects; Warren Williams preschool relocated to WB Wicker
Summary
District maintenance staff completed more than 1,500 summer work orders, relocated Warren Williams Preschool to WB Wicker, upgraded security entrances and finished flooring and HVAC projects. Board reviewed the work and approved related consent agenda items including a lottery application for Floyd Knight flooring.
Lee County School maintenance and operations staff reported a heavy summer workload and a string of completed projects to ready schools for the 2025–26 year.
District overview and major projects Assistant Superintendent of Operations Miss Eggers and Director of Maintenance Mr. McNeal told the board the maintenance group completed more than 1,500 requests over a 90‑day summer period. They highlighted the relocation of Warren Williams Preschool to the WB Wicker campus, which required new signage, a fenced and secured entrance, a relocated playground, a new security entrance window and additional door work to open classroom capacity.
Security, HVAC and flooring Administrators reported new badge‑reader security entrances at several campuses, visitor bleachers and badge access installed at Lee County High School, expanded camera coverage and intercom upgrades funded by lottery and safety dollars. The maintenance team completed new epoxy restroom flooring at four schools and vinyl laminate flooring at Floyd Knight Children’s Center. The district said some HVAC work — including a new cooling tower at Edwards — was completed and additional chiller work is planned in future capital budgets.
Mobile units and enrollment impacts Two mobile units were relocated to Broadway and Edwards to support enrollment increases and to provide space for support services. Administration told the board that these moves respond to both enrollment growth and the need for offices to deliver student services.
Finance and committee review Operations committee chair reported a lottery reimbursement application for Floyd Knight flooring ($97,207) that appears on the consent agenda; the consent agenda was approved by the board. Committee members also reviewed the facilities assessment (Bureau Veritas) and recommended a multi‑year capital plan informed by that study.
Ending Board members praised the maintenance staff for the rapid work and noted that preventative maintenance reduced the district’s need to use federal ESSER funds for HVAC replacements.
