Councilmember Dr. Vincent introduced a proposed business ordinance intended to address persistent tire dumping and related business-maintenance issues and asked that council members review a draft modeled on a Metro Council measure. Dr. Vincent moved to table the item to allow time for review and for the city attorney to examine the draft; Council President Pastor Murphy seconded the motion and the council voted unanimously to table the matter for a future work session.
Dr. Vincent said he had discussed the issue with Metro Council Member Daryl Hurst and Council Member Anthony Kenny and that Baker had taken part in a larger effort on related rules. He said the draft covers illegal tire dumping by businesses and producers and that staff and the city attorney would be asked to align local language with the parish measure before returning the item to the council for more detailed consideration.
No formal vote on the ordinance substance occurred; the action taken was procedural (tabling) to allow more review and a future work session for council members to evaluate the draft in depth.
