The committee focused on enforcement shortfalls in the city's snow-removal rules and discussed coordinating with the mayor, police and public works staff to improve compliance.
The chair (unnamed) said she met with Mayor Sierra to align the ordinance-review committee's recommendations with city priorities. "Her and I had a really nice meeting in her office, just to kinda talk about, like, what we're doing on the ordinance review committee and, and, kind of, like, what we could do to work together to make some recommendations that the city will support," the chair said.
Committee members proposed inviting Police Chief Carlos and a DPW director (referred to as Don/Donald Escalia/LaScalia in the meeting) to the same session so both enforcement and operational perspectives could be addressed together. Members described the problem as not necessarily the language of the ordinances but the lack of accountability and enforcement mechanisms: "We don't necessarily want ordinance changes... I think the issue is that... it's just not being carried out the way is it to, like, the way the language says that it should be," one member said.
The committee agreed to plan a meeting (targeted within the next two meetings) that would include the police chief and DPW leadership to discuss how to improve on-the-ground enforcement, clarify responsibilities, and develop options that committee members could present in a future ordinance session. No formal action or vote was taken at the meeting.
