Trustee votes at the Village Board of Trustees meeting on June 1, 2025, cleared a package of consent resolutions covering a claim settlement, building renovation, equipment disposition and a temporary street closure, and accepted traffic committee recommendations about stop signs and truck routing.
The board approved a settlement of a pending claim dating to February 2019 in which an original claim listed at $1,000,000 will be resolved for $10,000. The trustees recorded a roll-call vote with Trustee Thomas, Trustee Wozack, Trustee Dale, Trustee Wiley and Trustee Taylor registering yes votes for the item.
The board also authorized acceptance of a contractor proposal from a Valley Street firm identified in the agenda as Amache, New York, to renovate the Claystream Firehouse county room for a total of $98,700 and authorized “Anthony” to execute the proposal on the village’s behalf. That resolution passed on a roll-call vote with the same recorded yes votes.
Trustees approved a resolution to broker the sale of a 2018 Ford Transit, with a listed sale price of $15,000. Another resolution authorized the deputy village treasurer to enter into and execute a grant contract with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation; the agenda described this as a DEC grant contract. The board passed a separate resolution to dispose of obsolete equipment and approved a set of contracts and agreements that the agenda lists as effective June 1, 2025.
The board granted a temporary street closure for an event on Sept. 14 for East Fayetteville Avenue (described on the agenda as the Bethlehem 75 closure, from Rockaway to South Road). That item passed on a roll-call vote.
Under routine business the trustees accepted late-filed veteran exemption and tax-service items. Meeting discussion noted a veteran’s exemption filing by a new property owner that the tax department had not processed in time; the board agreed to apply the exemption for the current tax year. The village tax attorney, John Ryan, explained a point about assessment settlements, saying, “It’s a moratorium on it for 2 years,” meaning the agreement in some cases keeps assessed value at a higher level for two years as part of a negotiated refund arrangement.
The traffic committee presented recommendations for new signs. The committee proposed installing a stop sign at Alarm and Anne Street (one sign on the east side for southbound traffic and one on the west side for northbound) and recommended measures near North Park at West Meadow Road and North Corona to address sightline and parked-car visibility problems during peak periods. The committee also recommended restrictions to reduce truck movements on Cleveland Street off Fortn Avenue after residents reported trucks frequently mounting the sidewalk while making turns; trustees placed the traffic recommendations on the board’s consent calendar for implementation steps.
The meeting closed its public portion by moving into an executive session “for personnel litigation matters.” The motion carried on a roll call.
Votes and official actions described above were taken during the board’s consent and general business agenda as recorded in the meeting transcript.
