County committee members discussed a proposed health-insurance budget approach that would again contribute toward employee individual premiums and cover a one‑time Health Savings Account contribution for employees who choose the HSA option.
A committee member planning the budget said the county received a 4% increase in insurance rates and proposed to “cover up to $1,000 toward the individual plan” and to make a one-time contribution of $1,700 for employees who enroll in the HSA-preferred deductible plan. “Anyone that’s an individual and takes the HSA and uses preferred providers would not have any out of pocket cost to them throughout the year,” the member said in describing the intended budget entry.
The committee did not adopt a final budget at the meeting; members agreed to reserve final decisions for when the full budget is presented and adopted later. The committee chair and members said the proposed contributions will be included in the preliminary budget drafts unless a later change is directed.
Nut graf: The committee reached a preliminary agreement to continue a benefits approach used in the prior year, intending to help employees absorb premium increases and HSA deductible costs, while preserving the committee’s ability to finalize details during the formal budget adoption process.
Ending: The final budget, including this proposed benefit contribution, will be voted on at a later meeting when the budget is presented to the committee and full board.
