Committee approves $15,000 payment to Effingham Regional Growth Alliance

The Effingham County Tax and Finance Committee voted to send $15,000 to the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance after a presentation by the Alliance's director, Courtney Yockey.
Courtney Yockey asked the committee to continue the county’s previous-year level of support, saying, “I’m here respectfully requesting dues from the county to the Alliance, dues at a level of 15,000.” She summarized recent Alliance activity including work on childcare capacity, community planning, business recruitment and enterprise-zone expansions.
The request was moved and approved at the meeting. Committee member Josh Douthit moved to forward payment to the full board and pay the $15,000; Chris Keller seconded the motion. The chair called for the vote and the motion carried.

The committee recorded the allocation as part of the economic development budget line. A committee member later noted that the $15,000 payment reduced the committee’s economic-development balance and that the allocation had been placed on that budget line.
Ending: The committee approved the payment at the meeting. The Alliance’s director said she would continue to update the committee on the group’s activities; the item will appear in the county’s budget records as an economic-development expenditure.
