Committee forms exploratory subcommittee to examine program-selection trends and outcomes

The Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School District Committee voted Sept. 9 to create an exploratory subcommittee to review program-effectiveness data, including students’ top program choices and selections after exploratory rotations.
Superintendent Watson told the committee the administration has compiled two years of data on students’ top-six program choices and wants to analyze trends across three years to assess how exploratory experiences affect program selection and to examine selection patterns by race, IEP and EL status. The proposed subcommittee will review those data and produce a midyear report that synthesizes trends and informs program-policy decisions.
Committee members moved and seconded a motion to establish the subcommittee; the motion passed by voice vote. The committee named administrative representatives — including the vocational coordinator and principal — who will support the work. Several committee members volunteered to serve; the superintendent said the committee would consider incorporating teacher voices in subsequent meetings.
The administration said the subcommittee will aim to report back in February with a three-year collage of trends and recommendations that could inform program offerings and placement practices.
