Warren County R-3 outlines professional development calendar and tuition reimbursement

The Warren County R‑3 professional development committee presented an overview Tuesday of planned professional learning, survey results and a tuition reimbursement pilot for teachers.
Carrie Strunk, lead chair for the district professional development committee, said the district collected a PDC survey this spring to prioritize topics. "Based on the 2025 PDC survey results, learning loss and interventions, the science of reading and learning, and behavior management professional development are among the highest suggested topics," Strunk said.
Strunk reviewed a draft 2025–26 PD calendar and said building teams and committees will add sessions during monthly planning. The district also partners with Lindenwood University to offer graduate credit opportunities and approved a tuition reimbursement initiative in 2023. Under that initiative, eligible certified staff submit a Google form with proof of purchase and transcripts; reimbursement amounts are divided among qualifying teachers with a $500 cap per submission. Strunk said the district distributed $7,450 in reimbursements last year.
Strunk noted monthly full‑day PD on the first Monday of each month except October and May. Board members asked clarifying questions about session frequency, the four‑person limit for curriculum writers and substitute availability; Strunk said the four‑person limit helps manage substitute shortages.
The presentation was informational; the board did not take formal action.
