Board approves nine overnight and out-of-state student trips, including FIRST Robotics and Chicago

The Woodhaven Brownstone Board of Education on Sept. 9 approved nine overnight and out-of-state student trip proposals and authorized staff to complete required paperwork, chaperone agreements and background checks prior to travel.

The approved trips and dates listed in the meeting materials included: fifth-grade camp at the Battle Creek Outdoor Education Center in Dowling, Michigan (multiple date ranges in May and June); a sixth-grade Chicago trip (date listed as April 5); Brownstone Middle School band and choir performance with the Toledo Walleye (Nov. 12); a dental-occupations student lab and tour at the University of Toledo (date to be scheduled); the FIRST Robotics state championship at Saginaw Valley State University (April 15–18); the FIRST Robotics world championship at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas (April 28–May 3); the Woodhaven Theatre Company MIFA state finals at Saint John’s High School (Feb. 13–14); the cross-country Otsego Bulldog Invitational at Otsego High School (September, specific date not specified); and the Michigan High School Athletic Association cross-country state finals at Michigan International Speedway (Oct. 31–Nov. 1).

President Berry moved approval, Lowry supported the motion, and the board approved the proposals by voice vote. The meeting materials noted that “all appropriate and required paperwork will be completed prior to each trip including chaperone agreements and background checks where required.”
