Board approves LEA licenses, fee requests and school trust fund advance; enrollment update presented

The Murray School District board approved a package of personnel licenses, fee requests and a short-term fiscal advance for school trust land funds, and district leadership presented an enrollment snapshot for the current year. Director Dean asked the board to approve a list of LEA‑specific licenses to cover teachers completing endorsements or in alternate-path programs; the board voted to approve the 2025 LEA-specific licenses as presented. The list included teachers at Grant, Horizon, Parkside and multiple junior-high and high-school positions, and specific endorsements such as middle-math, visual arts, career-and‑college awareness, psychology, financial literacy and a robotics endorsement for Connor Winder. Dean said these LEA licenses allow the district to receive state funding while educators complete required coursework or tests. Business Administrator reported that four schools had negative School Trust Land balances that would be covered by an advance of 2026 funds; the board voted to approve that advance. The board also heard and approved a second reading of a JV Drill Club fee request (fee $150 with up to $100 offset via fundraising), and approved a TSSA amendment at Viewmont Elementary to purchase automated scoring for math assessments ($1,600) and to fund white-ribbon digital-safety week supplies ($800). Superintendent Covington presented enrollment data showing total district enrollment at 5,424 students, with about 23% of students living outside district boundaries. Covington said kindergarten enrollments were slightly higher than projections and that the district had created heat maps of family locations for planning future facility and boundary work. Motions to approve the LEA licenses, school trust advance, JV drill fee and TSSA amendments all passed by voice vote as reflected in the meeting record.
