The Cheltenham School District facilities committee presented progress updates on construction and maintenance projects at the high school and across the district, including the CHS stadium, a recently completed roof portion and design work for Glenside and Cedarbrook additions.
The status update is notable because multiple large capital projects are moving forward concurrently and will require continued oversight, permitting and future bids; administrators reported both grant-funded elements and early-stage cost realization.
Facilities committee member Burdell Williams described current work at the CHS stadium: concrete boring for new bleachers, surface leveling and site excavation in preparation for turf installation. He said roughly “about 10% of the budget — a little more than 10% of budgeted costs — have been realized” to date, and that payment obligations will increase as sequential work items are completed.
The committee reported that roof replacement on the front portion of Cheltenham High School covering Stratton Hall is complete; that project was supported significantly by approximately $1,000,000 from the PA State School Improvement Grant. Design and permitting for Glenside and Cedarbrook school additions are underway; the committee noted site logistics and full-cost estimation are in progress and said an October bid date was anticipated for some contracts.
The district also reported continued planning work for the high school HVAC project; committee members said the drawing and design phase could take 12–18 months before full construction bids are issued. For recent grade-reconfiguration work, the committee explained purchases and furniture movement made this summer support the fifth- and sixth-grade moves and will be reused when additions are finished.
Committee members encouraged the public to attend future facilities meetings for fuller detail; the committee’s next meeting was scheduled for Oct. 7 in hybrid format.
