Committee flags duplicate internet-device policy and plans 4000-series review

During the September policy committee meeting, Deputy Superintendent Alex Peterson told the board staff had identified a duplication in the district's policies on internet-enabled devices and recommended abolishing the redundant policy. "We have another policy, the 5695 policy that is a duplicate of 5137," Peterson said, calling the items "duplication" that "can be abolished."
Peterson said she scheduled shared-decision-making meetings with bargaining units to review the proposed changes to the 4000-series (student-related) policies and that the district expects to bring recommended changes to the board at an October reading. She noted that some student-impacting policy changes require an implementation period to allow systems updates, parent notification and staff preparation. "For certain policies, I may also recommend that, because it does have a big impact on how students and teachers govern their day to day," Peterson said.
No vote was taken. Peterson said the district would present the 4000-series changes at the October reading after unit review and stakeholder feedback.
