The Pembroke Pines Planning and Zoning Board voted unanimously on Sept. 11 to accept staff’s recommendation and approve a site‑plan modification for Chabad of Pembroke Pines to construct a women’s mikvah on property purchased in 2021.
Attorney and applicant representative Jeremy Scheer told the board that Chabad purchased the property at 18490 Johnson Street from the city in 2021 for religious and educational purposes and is seeking a site‑plan modification for an approximately 1,300‑square‑foot women’s mikvah. Scheer said the mikvah will be used roughly once or twice a week and noted that a parking variance for the site had been approved two months earlier; no additional variances were requested at the Sept. 11 hearing.
Board members asked one question about exterior materials. Architect Craig Dittman responded that split‑face block is the structural exterior material and also serves as the finish. The applicant waived quasi‑judicial rights for the hearing. Staff recommended approval and the board accepted that recommendation by voice vote.
The approval was recorded as acceptance of staff’s recommendation; the board did not add additional conditions during the hearing. The file indicates the project will proceed to building permitting after planning approvals are complete.
