Perry council adopts tentative millage and tentative budget for FY 2025–26

At its Sept. 11 meeting the City of Perry City Council adopted a tentative millage rate and the tentative fiscal year 2025–26 budget. The advertised option on the notice was the prior millage rate of 5.8336, which the city manager said would yield $2,151,266 in property-tax revenue; the rollback rate option of 5.8188 (advertised as comparison) was also discussed.
The council held a public hearing on the tentative millage and on the tentative budget and then took the required formal vote to adopt the tentative figures for advertisement and to continue the budget process. Staff explained that the tentative budget includes adjustments for gas-tax revenues and the use of reserves for qualifying capital outlay (for example, equipment that qualifies under gas-tax restrictions).
Council members asked for clarifying adjustments to a small number of line items and were told the October final hearing would permit further refinement. A formal motion to adopt the tentative millage and the tentative budget was made and seconded; roll call votes recorded approval from council members present.
As required by state law, the tentative adoption triggers the statutorily required public-notice and publishing schedule and sets the amount that will be advertised in the Truth in Millage (TRIM) notices to property owners. Staff noted the final budget and millage rate will be adopted at a second public hearing (the final meeting in late September), where the council may still revise the numbers before final adoption.
