Examples included visiting local chefs for culinary wellness at Abbott and Hyde Park schools (paid by Title I), college‑credit support paid to Niagara College ($50,000 for three credit hours for roughly 100 students under a Smart Scholars grant), eSports credits for 25 students ($30,000) and multiple social‑emotional and counseling services paid by mental‑health funding.
Administrators also described partnerships in support of family services and donations, including Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed distributions and a University at Buffalo dental school donation of toothbrushes and toothpaste for students.
No general‑fund transfers were reported for these programs; administrators said the initiatives are grant‑funded and were written with school needs and MWBE requirements in mind. The board did not vote on all listed short‑term contracts at the Sept. 11 meeting; the administration said some items will appear on the Sept. 25 consent agenda or later for board approval.
